Some of our volunteers have gone through support training, including active listening, community care and support, consent, and bystander intervention. If you need someone to talk to, someone who can provide a listening ear, and someone who might be able to help you work through things, please feel free to drop-in during our Peer Support Hours (found below). Although Peer Support Helpers have been trained to provide support, they are NOT trained counsellors.
You may also make an appointment by contacting us by phone (250-472-4393) or email for an appointment with one of our Peer Support Helpers below! You can also make an appointment with any specific person on the coordinating committee (here), though not everybody has been trained to provide the kind of support our Peer Support Helpers have. We also recognize that coming into the Pride Centre can be very intimidating, and as such, some members of the coordinating committee are willing – and would love – to meet outside of the Pride Centre to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of any help!
Peer Support Helpers:
Hours for November 28th-December 10th:
Hi everyone! My name is Macayla and I’ve been involved with pride since 2014. I’m a queer, cis woman of colour and a trespasser to these territories. I used to be a safer spaces coordinator, but now I just do peer support and run Ace/Aro meet-ups! We can also meet by appointment if Thursdays at 11:30-1:30 don’t work for you. 🙂
Hours: Thursday (December 1st only), 11:30am-1:30pm
I’m a cisgender, queer woman, a Safer Spaces Volunteer, and the Fundraising Coordinator.
Hours: Fridays, 12:30-2:30pm
Hey! I’m UVic Pride’s Office Coordinator, a transwoman and a long-time member of UVic Pride and the Victoria queer community in general. I am able to offer drop-in peer support for transwomen and transfeminine individuals during my regular office hours as well as by appointment. I’m open to meeting off campus too with some notice and understanding!
Hours: Wednesdays, 12:30-5:30pm, or by appointment for Transwomen/Transfeminine-identified individuals.
