Committees are long-term groups that look after particular aspects of running the Collective and are chaired by members of the Coordinating Committee. Committees do not meet regularly and are scheduled as needed. Notice of committee meetings are communicated to the collective via our email listserve and Facebook 🙂

This is a weekly meeting wherein we will discuss fundraising possibilities for the collective. Any plans made will be brought to collective meetings for approval. Please contact Michelle if you have any questions or are interested in getting involved.

Events and Activism Committee
This committee is dedicated to planning and implementing social events and campaigns, etc, that promote social justice and to just have fun! The Events and Activism Committee often works in conjunction with other advocacy groups, as well as off-campus groups to foster opportunities for learning and sharing. Events make Pride visible as a collective. This is our opportunity to take our politics to a public space, or to build community as members – or both!

Safer Space Committee
The Safer Space Committee works to ensure the Pride Centre and Pride activities are safer spaces. To get involved with the Safer Space Committee or learn more, email Willa, the Safer Spaces coordinator. [link: safer spaces coordinators ]

This committee ensures Pride’s policies are up-to-date and are an accurate reflection of the Collective. Policy Committee reviews and maintains Pride’s policies as necessary, and develops new Policies, when needed, for the Collective to adopt.

This committee meets as necessary to identify new books and DVDs for Pride’s library and maintains the catalogue of Pride’s current books and DVDs. The library also welcomes volunteers!

This committee creates and updates resources for the UVic Pride Collective. The committee puts together accessible information about how Pride runs, documents events and community resources, creates pamphlets and posters, and does research/development of new resources.

Currently Inactive Committees:
GIWIC (Gender Inclusive Washroom Initiative Coalition) Committee
This committee is tasked with all of the planning and organizing involved with gender inclusive washrooms on campus, regionally, as well as nationally. The committee will develop and maintain resources for washrooms on campus and regionally/nationally, as well as develop materials for, and outreach to, universities and colleges across Canada that are also working to convert or create gender inclusive washrooms. A national coalition of universities and colleges was set up in 2012 and is currently hosted by the UVic Pride Collective.
Youth Outreach Committee
This committee works on youth engagement with UVic Pride. It is responsible for things such as planning events for youth and liaising with social justice groups in local schools. (Note: As of 2015, the Youth Caucus has been doing the work of this committee)
Outreach and Communications Committee
This committee is responsible for maintaining and providing outreach to community organizations, universities, and colleges. (Note: As of October, 2015 an elected position, titled “Post-Secondary Outreach Coordinator”, would be responsible for organizing this committee. The position is currently vacant.)
This committee is dedicated to planning out and gardening in our campus community garden plot! The plot is currently shared with the Students of Colour Collective (SOCC), and the committee is in collaboration with SOCC members. If you’re interesting in community building, being outside, gardening, learning about urban and sustainable farming, and growing beautiful and edible plants, feel free to join this committee! (Note: As of June 2016 UVic Pride no longer has a plot at the Campus Community Garden. However, there is still the chance of obtaining one in the future, or exploring other gardening options.)
