Pride Collective Meetings usually happen once every two weeks during the summer semester and once every week during the fall and winter semesters. These are the meetings where the collective meets to make all of the decisions involved with running the collective: setting budgets, approving donations, approving purchases, approving event plans, discussing operations and campaigns, etc. It is the decision-making body of the collective. Collective meetings, like UVic Pride itself, operates non-hierarchically. Every member in the meeting has the same level of power as everybody else. Collective meetings usually operate on a consensus-based decision-making model, where the collective attempts to come to decisions that everybody consents to. Sometimes, though, contentious issues arise, and we may go to a vote, as outlined in our [link: Constitution ]. Voting rights are obtained by either attending at least 3 collective meetings within 1 term of the 3 last academic terms; attending a working group, caucus, or committee within the last 3 academic terms; having completed volunteer training within the last 3 academic terms; or appealing to the collective to obtain voting rights at the beginning of the meeting. Our meetings are fairly casual and informal. The collective tends to not like bureaucracy! We’ll also often have food for larger, more longer meetings, and encourage people to bring food to share when they can!
Agendas are normally sent out to the email listserv (sign up at the bottom of the page) 48 hours before collective meetings and can also be found on the [link: Main Page] of our website and on our [ link: Facebook ]. Anybody can add agenda items for the collective meeting! Just send us an email with your agenda items at email@example.com. Agenda items cannot be added after the 48 hour advance time-limit, unless voted upon at the collective meeting as amendments to the agenda.
